Winter time fun at Allegany State Park

Allegany State Park is an all season destination, sitting a top 65,000 acres between Salamanca New York and Bradford Pennsylvania. The park opened in 1921 after New York State acquired 7,000 acres. The first permanent cabins were built in 1925. Before that, campers used WWI military surplus tents.

Winter camping is fun in this vast park, offering camping, hiking, snow shoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobile trails. Don’t forget to bring the sleds! Allegany State Park is full of rolling hills and great sledding spots.

Cabin rentals with heat and electric are available for guests to warm up and relax after a full day of outdoor activities. A stove and refrigerator make meal prep more like home, but die hard campers can use the fire pit if preferred.

In the administration building visitors can browse in the gift shop, check in, grab a map or sit back and enjoy the picturesque view from the sitting area.

Park goers can come for a day or book cabins through Reserve America. Price varies depending on cabin size and amenities. Bathrooms and showers are open and maintained all year and are clearly labeled on the site maps. Cross country ski rentals are available at the building on the Summit loop for $18.00 a day. Groomed trails for skiers bring awe inspiring winter scenes all day long.  Make your reservations early because some of the cabins book up quick.
