Night Lights at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens

The Buffalo Botanical Gardens invites guests to this year’s “Night Lights at the Gardens.” Now through February 18^th take a nocturnal stroll through tropic like temperatures and view the many displays in a new light.
Doors open at 6pm Wednesday through Saturday. Wednesday and Thursday the many illuminated exhibits can be viewed until 9pm and until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The Buffalo Botanical Gardens are located at 2655 South Park Avenue in Buffalo, near South Park and Our Lady of Victory Basilica.
Admission to the event is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for students and seniors, $5.00 for children 3 to 12 and under 3 is free. Tickets can be purchased onsite at the gift shop register in the front lobby. The phone number for The Botanical Gardens is (716) 827-1584.
This year’s event will also feature some special guests to add to the night time garden experience. On Friday February 3^rd, Lazlo Hollyfeld, an all instrumental group will be playing original compositions during the light show. John & Mary, an original folk rock group, will be performing on Friday February 10th. The GAHU Drum Ensemble will wrap things up on February 17^th. Originally from the Chautauqua area, their accomplished traditional percussion style will accent the lighting and soundscapes of the gardens.
The lighting displays are organized by Sitler HQ and Volt Vision. This is the same group who lit up the gardens last year and per the Botanical Gardens website helped to make last year’s event successful.

South Park - A Buffalo Olmstead Park

South Park is one of the Olmstead Parks located in South Buffalo. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, an American landscape architect, in 1894 as an arboretum, displaying over 2,000 types of trees and shrubs. Olmstead designed many great parks in the Buffalo area and throughout the United States, including Central Park in New York City.
Today, South Park is home to 200 different species of trees while occupying the grounds surrounding the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. Visitors are buffered from the traffic and noise by the abundance of trees, something that most parts of a city lack.
The park is 155 acres of Victorian charm with an incredible variety of gardens that immediately surround the Botanical Gardens. Centered around South Park Lake is a nine hole golf course, ball diamonds and a walking path.
Entry into the park is free. There is a concession stand at the park. For those who are interested in a round of golf, you can’t beat the price! Monday through Friday 9 holes of golf cost just $9.00! That is just a buck a hole! On Saturday, Sundays and Holidays the cost is $11.00 for 9 holes of golf.
South Park is located at 2535 S Park Ave Buffalo, NY 14218. Besides the beautiful Botanical Gardens, the Our Lady of Victory Basilica towers in the back drop. This park is a great place to take a stroll, walk the dog, take a jog or to find a spot under one of the many trees and enjoy a book. The park is just 10 minutes outside of downtown Buffalo, south of the city, bordering Lackawanna.
